When it comes to core strength, there are a lot of options and no wrong answers. If you really want to work your abs in the water, try some dolphin kick on your back with fins on. You can do anything from a long, steady 2,000 meters (a tip given to me by Olympic Coach Eddie Reese at University of Texas years ago) to variable sprint 25s. You can also try 50s in which you sprint the middle 25, a favorite of mine to practice in a long course pool.
